South Asia regional media workshop to combat AMR to take place in Kathmandu

Health TV Online, Kathmandu- Nepal is gearing up to host the first South Asia Regional Media Workshop to Prevent Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) on August 7th in Kathmandu. Recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the foremost global public health and development threats, AMR poses significant risks to the South Asia region.

Kalpana Acharya, Editor-in-Chief of Health TV Online and Organizing Chairperson of the South Asia Media Workshop to Prevent AMR, emphasized that Nepal was selected to host the workshop to amplify the media’s role in addressing AMR through effective communication. “Journalists and media are crucial in conveying the message effectively,” Acharya stated.

Shobha Shukla, Managing Editor of CNS India and Chairperson of the Global AMR Media Alliance (GAMA), highlighted the importance of fostering a shared understanding of AMR among journalists. “To this end, we have invited over 200 journalists from South Asia to participate both virtually and in person,” she said. Acharya added that the event will feature the Regional Director of the WHO South-East Asia Regional Office and several high-ranking officials from government, health, and media sectors.

The workshop is being organized by Health TV Online in collaboration with co-hosts, including the Ministry of Health and Population Government of Nepal, Global AMR Media Alliance (GAMA), Outreach Media Pvt Ltd, CNS, Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC), Health Aawaj, Asia Pacific Media Alliance for Health and Development (APCAT Media), and LOMUS.
