Highest single-day rise in Covid-19 cases in Kathmandu Valley

Kalpana Acharya\Kathmandu: An upsurge of COVID-19 has been reported in the Kathmandu Valley with highest single-day rise in cases today.

In the past 24 hours, the Kathmandu Valley reported 481 new cases. Earlier, the highest daily caseload in the valley was 415.

The new infected cases include 393 in Kathmandu, 58 in Lalitpur and 30 in Bhaktapur. With this, the total number of COVID-19 infected has reached 5,724 alone in the valley with 4,522 in Kathmandu, 685 in Lalitpur and 517 in Bhaktapur.

Meanwhile, Nepal’s total COVID-19 tally has reached 40,529 with 239 deaths, said the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) today. New 1,069 positive cases and 11 deaths were reported across the country within the past 24 hours.

So far there are 18,112 active cases in the country, while 22,178 have been successfully cured and discharged from various hospitals, said MoHP Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam.

As of today, 7,390 people are staying in different quarantine centres and 18,112 in isolation. A total of 705,560 PCR tests have been carried out across the country so far.

Owing to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, the federal, provincial and local governments have imposed lockdowns in many parts of the country. The lockdown enforced in the Kathmandu Valley is expiring mid-night September 2.
