WHO responds to U.S. decision to withdraw from the organization

Health TV Online\Kathmandu : The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed regret over the announcement that the United States intends to withdraw its membership from the global health body.
“The WHO emphasized its critical role in safeguarding global health and security, including the well-being of Americans,” the WHO’s statement reads. Through efforts to address the root causes of diseases, strengthen health systems, and respond to health emergencies such as disease outbreaks, the Organization has been a vital player in places and situations where others are unable to intervene, it added.
Stating that the United States has been a cornerstone of the WHO since its founding in 1948, actively participating in its governance alongside 193 other Member States, the latter has highlighted that over the decades, this collaboration has yielded monumental achievements, including the eradication of smallpox and the near elimination of polio. American institutions have both contributed to and benefited from their association with WHO, underscoring the reciprocal value of this partnership, WHO added.
It is notable that in recent years, with the involvement of the United States and other Member States, WHO has implemented its most comprehensive reforms to date, improving accountability, cost-efficiency, and impact worldwide.
Also, WHO has expressed its hope that the U.S. would reconsider its decision, emphasizing the importance of continued dialogue and partnership. Maintaining this relationship, the Organization noted, is crucial for advancing the health and well-being of millions across the globe, including American citizens.
